Ananthasayanam, also known as Anantapadmanabha, is a form of the Hindu God Vishnu depicted in a reclining posture on the serpent Ananta Shesh Nag. This iconic image symbolizes Vishnu's role as the preserver of the universe, resting in cosmic repose on the endless serpent, floating on the primordial ocean. In this form, Vishnu is often shown with his consort, Goddess Lakshmi, at his feet, and Brahma emerging from a lotus that springs from his navel, signifying the cycle of creation, preservation, and dissolution. Ananthasayanam is particularly revered in the Padmanabhaswamy Temple in Kerala, India.
