Kalinga Narthana Krishna is a popular depiction of Lord Krishna performing the "Kalinga Narthana," which means the dance on the serpent Kaliya. According to Hindu mythology, the story is from the Bhagavata Purana. The serpent Kaliya had poisoned the Yamuna River, endangering all life around it. To subdue Kaliya and restore balance, Krishna, as a young boy, jumped into the river, danced on Kaliya’s multiple heads, and ultimately subdued the serpent. This episode showcases Krishna's divine powers, symbolizing the triumph of good over evil and the restoration of nature's balance.
In art and classical dance, especially Bharatanatyam, this event is often depicted with grace and vigor, highlighting Krishna's playful yet powerful nature.
